Recall Notice for 2006-2009 Jetta

After one of my daily browsing of vwvortex I found that a recall just released potentially affects my car. Dealers should know about this recall as of June 19th so I requested an appointment with my local dealer.

This is specifically for 2006-2009 VW Jetta/GLI with the 2.0t engine, DSG trans and the vin range:  3VW___1K_6M_618033 – 3VW___1K_9M_304337

I will update this post once the dealer gets back to me.

As expected my car falls within the VIN range of affected cars. I have an appointment Tuesday at Captial VW in San Jose to take a look at it.

I am not getting just bolts, im getting a new drive shaft. Looks like mine definitely had the issue. Hopefully this will resolve a clunk I just started getting this past month.

They had to order the part which will arrive tomorrow. The car should also be ready tomorrow.

Turns out their parts supplier doesn’t have it in stock unlike what was said before. Instead the part is being shipped in from Germany and will arrive Tuesday. They deemed it unsafe to drive which didn’t surprise me. So I guess its most likely Wednesday when my car will be ready.

Just got my car back here is what was replaced:

1 1K0-407-451-TX DRIVESHAFT
1 WHT=002-795 12POINT S
3 N-103-320-02 NUT
6 N-909-911-02 BOLT
3 1K0-407-357-D PLATE

Alignment was also preformed.

Just from the drive home my downshifting was much smoother, I was not expecting that. My clunk seems to be gone but we will see after a week of driving. Im starting to wonder if it was slipping due to the smoothness that the car has now and how much less vibration I have. I gotta say Capital VW’s customer service has been pretty spot on so far.

Just droped mine off the other day. The said they are putting 2 new axels on it because of this recall. I read your post and called them back asking why another person would have the driveshaft replaced and not my car. I had a VERY loud knocking sound when I droped it off.

Good idea to follow up. If anything when it gets done see if you still have that knocking and if so just take it back in saying it wasn’t fixed, kindly suggest the driveshaft as a “friend” had the same issue due to the recall.

I just dropped my 2008 2.0T Wolfsburg Jetta off yesterday. My car was deemed unsafe to drive, and they ordered an axle from Germany. I was told that it would be a minimum of 2 weeks before the part arrives. So, I have a rental car courtesy of VW while I sit and wait.
